It's a different world
Yes times have changed. The world is not as safe as it use to be. We have to be more careful and watch our kids more. But this weekend I was amazed at the lack of help that was offered to me.
I was driving into Jenison to pick up an amazing $5 pizza for dinner. All of a sudden I heard a louder noise that didn't sound quite right, then the van started to "shudder". Quickly I pulled over, yep a flat tire. Rob and Noah had gone up north so I couldn't call him. I called my mom and dad but they were up at Sandy Pines with friends. Rob's parents weren't back from picking up relatives from the airport. Panic started setting in. Maybe the guy burning leaves in his back yard who was only 30 ft. from me and could clearly see me would offer to help. No such luck. Maybe one of the many dads across at the park would stop, or the two couples who walked 5ft. from my van, anyone driving by? NOT ONE person stopped and offered to help. For goodness sake I was in the suburbs of Jenison, a fairly safe neighborhood. I know for a fact that had it been my husband burning leaves he would have asked if we needed help. I was a little sad and disappointed that we have become so self involved that we don't even have time to stop and help.
There is a good samaritian to my story in the form of my brother Todd. When I called he was watching basketball with the guys and quite comfortable on the couch. Even though it wasn't conveinent he came and saved Elli and I. Thank you Todd for not leaving us stranded and helping us out. I owe you one.

Todd rules! His team was losing on TV anyway. Remember when you were young he would do something nice for you and then 10 min. later he would beat you up? Watch you back!

Todd Blows
Who is this "blog reader" imposter? This is the best blog I've ever read. That Todd should have a holiday named after him. The Footin blog blows.
Fig, If she would have already had that $5 pizza when her tire blew, I probably would have changed her tire and then beat her up and took her pizza.
Ok, give him a Holiday, but Todd still blows
Todd only showed up, because I wasn't home (I live across the street)
I still think Ritsema was watching from the front window laughing.
I do remember the time Todd slammed the door on my head, and the times he would make me ride home from church "crunched" down low so nobody would know I was in the car. Hmmm. . . maybe he owed me.
What is this world coming to?!?!? You can't even change your own tire??? What are you, and "old school" woman?
Seriously though, I think it has to do with cell phones. Everyone has one and usually, when you drive by, they are talking on it already so I figure the situation is handled.
No offense to anyone, but Jenison people are a different breed (on average)...I would have completely expected people to NOT stop and help you, pretty much ignore you.
BTW, I couldnt change a tire if my life depended on it or drive thru a car wash...I've never tried and I never will...There's too many Brent's in the world..."What is this person doing? What a moron! Haven't they ever been thru a carwash before?" I would be that person.
First of all I would stop and help a woman, especially with a child,
Second, this is a blog about how sweet Todd is, not about how bad other people are, Let's keep it to "comments about singing Todd's praises"
Third, Braaaaaad is absolutely right, there are things every person should know how to do, don't get me started.
Fourth, Todd is sweet, even though he blows
Once, Ross was stuck in the road in a snow pile, and I left the comfort of my office chair and pulled him out with my truck and tow strap.
and, Me and Ross left the comforts of both of our chairs and pulled todd out a mud hole on a seasonal road in the middle of the allegan forest, while he was being attacked by foreigners.
Once, I had a dead battery and no one helped me, so I had to ride my bike to Target to buy a new one.
I always ride my bike with groceries while I smoke, that's harder than just one battery
You should try to ride your bike with your Burger King clothes on to go test drive the Mazdarati with a bag of free whoppers for Tim in your hand.
You should try to ride on the back of Vince's bike with your own Burger King clothes on to go test drive the Mazdarati with Vince carrying a bag of free whoppers for Tim in his hand.
Once again I say, "Too much mud is not funny." Right Todd & Fig?
How about a National Toad Day?????
(I mean Todd Day.)
Tami, I feel bad for you that your blog post took on a life of it's own.
To summarize:
Todd Rules
Todd Blows
Brad wouldn't help a stranger.
Nicole has car wash issues.
Fig doesn't know how to spell
I myself will never learn how to change a tire--just to fry Cow and Braaaad
who's Vince?
I do not know if I would stop to help out- only because I cannot change a tire either. Thank goodness for brothers.
My kids will not be allowed to leave my house with the car until they can prove to me they can change a tire, it is simply safer for them if they can do it themself, else they have to rely on a stranger to help them, if I had girls I would definately, definately make sure they knew how top change a tire.
I bet Braaad's girls and Ross's daughter will know how before they leave! Keep's them safe!
Todd blows, even though he has a day!
My girls will learn to change a tire before I let them take Driver's Ed.
Seriously, women nowadays want to be independant, I can do it by myself, people but they can't change a tire? C'mon! You can't have it both ways!
The theme of National Todd Day will be to educate all races/genders/ and walks of life on how to change a tire. I am putting Brad in charge of the logistics and Ron in charge of snacks and refreshments.
I don't know how to bring snacks, my wife ALWAYS does that for me
Tell me when and where. Everyone better be on time and ready to learn because class will only last 5 minutes and we won't review!
Brad,
Your tutorial will only last 5 minutes, the remaining 23 hours and 55 minutes we will celebrate me.
What about me?
I will bring the decorations
signs that say
"Todd Blows"
Pretty sure Brad's wife could change a tire, but would rather not get dirty. So she would call Brad to come change it. Especially if it was cold outside!
Wife, you RULE!!! If it was raining hard or blizzard I would probably do it, but not on a nice day
Hey, Brad's wife,
Ron and Todd like people who refer to themselves in the third person
Don't count me in.
btw,
Fig is severely lacking for not teaching me how to change a tire.
or did he??
I may have been thinking about some silly boyfriend at the time.
Jimmy likes Elaine
Triplet mom likes Ron & Todd
e-boy likes chocolate chip cookies!
Seeings how I started the blogging, I thought I would end it. 35 hits is pretty good, but no record. Happy National Todd's Day and Festivis for the rest of us.
